The Tampa Bay Rays won for the 17th time in their last 19 home games today. Matt Garza helped lead the Rays to a 5-3 win over the Texas Rangers. The win today moves Tampa Bay to 32-21 on the season.
Matt Garza got the start for the Rays and got the win as he moved his record to an impressive 4-1. He went eight innings, striking out 10 and allowing only two earned runs. Troy Percival came on in the 9th for the save but injured himself and ended up getting charged with a run. Dan Wheeler replaced Percival and got his first save of the season.
The Rangers pitching struggled with their control as they walked in two of the Rays five runs. The Rays collected only seven hits during the game but tacked on nine walks on top of that. Akinori Iwamura was the only Ray with two hits. BJ Upton and Cliff Floyd each walked twice. The Rays scored their five runs without a single extra base hit.
The Rays will stay at home to start a weekend series with the AL Central leading Chicago White Sox. Edwin Jackson will start the opener on Thursday night against John Danks. Game time is 7:10pm.
