Edwin Jackson threw seven terrific innings and the offense hit three homers to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 11-3 win in Seattle on Sunday. The win gave the Rays their 71st win of the season, a franchise record. They are now 71-46 on the season.
Edwin Jackson went seven innings and gave up only one earned run to pick up his ninth win of the season. Jackson scattered seven hits and struck out two batters. Trever Miller and Jason Hammel threw the last two innings to close things out.
Wily Aybar got the start at third for Evan Longoria and slugged a pair of homers and drove in four runs. Cliff Floyd and Eric Hinske each had three hits. The eighth and ninth hitters in the line up, Aybar and Riggans drove in seven of the Rays runs.
The Rays will take the day off on Monday as the head to Oakland to take on the struggling Athletics. Evan Longoria was placed on the 15 day DL today with a fractured wrist. This is clearly a big loss for the Rays.
