The surging Toronto Blue Jays got in the way in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. Roy Halladay out-pitched James Shields to help lead the Jays to a 6-2 win. The loss drops the Rays to 79-51 this season.
Shields got the start for the Rays and took his eighth loss of the year. Shields managed to get through 6.2 innings but did allow four runs. Shields allowed nine hits and struck out four batters. JP Howell and Jason Hammel each allowed a run in relief for Tampa Bay.
Ray Halladay threw six innings and allowed only two runs to the Rays offense. Both Tampa Bay runs game on an Eric Hinske single in the sixth inning. Hinske had two hits and was the only player on the team with more than one. All seven of the Rays hits were singles.
The Rays and the Jays will play again on Wednesday night. Matt Garza is scheduled to start the 7:10 game.
