The Tampa Bay Rays continued to struggle on Thursday night. They lost to the hapless Kansas City Royals 4-2. The Rays record has now fallen to 59-42.
Matt Garza started on the mound and really struggled. He lasted only five innings and allowed 12 base runners (8 hits, 4 walks) and gave up all four runs. The bullpen helped keep things close as they worked three innings of scoreless ball.
The Rays were down 4-0 in the 8th inning until BJ Upton plated Jason Bartlett on a ground out. In the ninth inning Cliff Floyd hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run of the game. Jason Bartlett went 3-3 from the ninth spot and Evan Longoria added two more hits. Sadly, the rest of the team combined for only three more hits.
The Rays will look for some revenge on Friday night in game two of the series. Edwin Jackson is scheduled to start for Tampa. Game time is 8:10pm.
