The Skinny: The Tampa Bay Rays continued their winning ways and kept the Toronto Blue Jays as they won on Thursday 5-3. The Rays moved to 11-11 on the season. The Rays got some timely hitting and solid pitching to pick up the win.
The Pitching: Andy Sonnanstine started for the Rays after pitching a shut out his last time out. Sonnanstine didn’t throw a shut out but threw well enough to pick up his third win of the season. He lasted 6.1 innings and gave up all three of the Jays runs. Troy Percival came on in the 9th inning and threw a scoreless inning to pick up his fourth save of the season. He has yet to allow an earned run this season.
The Hitting: The Jays had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 but the Rays kept charging back into the game. Carl Crawford continued to swing the hot bat in the Rays line up as he collected three more hits and bumped his average over .300. Rookie Evan Longoria went 2-2 with a walk to go with a double and a triple.
What’s Next?: Matt Garza will start for the Rays tonight as they start their series against the Red Sox. This will be a good measuring point for the Rays, it will be helpful to see how they stand up against the defending World Series champs.
