The Tampa Bay Rays finished off a series sweep of the defending champion Boston Red Sox. The ESPN game showed the Rays doing what they do best. The Rays came from behind and got to the Red Sox bullpen to take a 7-6 victory. The first place Rays are now 52-32 this season.
Scott Kazmir started for the Rays and was less than dominant. He lasted just five innings and gave up seven hits and four runs. He received a no-decision. Gary Glover got his first win of the season. With Troy Percival on the disabled list, Dan Wheeler came on and got the save.
The Rays got only one run off of Boston’s starter, Daisuke Matsuzaka in his five innings of work. However, they got three each off of Manny Delcarmen and Craig Hansen, neither of whom recorded a single out. Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford each had three hits for the Rays while Longoria added three RBI. BJ Upton and Carlos Pena failed to get a hit but each collected two walks.
The Rays will take Thursday off and start a weekend series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Edwin Jackson will start the opener. Game time is 5:10pm.
