For the second consecutive game the Boston Red Sox reminded the Tampa Bay Rays that they are still the team to beat in the American League East. The Red Sox, behind ace pitcher Josh Beckett, topped the Rays 5-1.
Edwin Jackson started on the mound for the Nationals and was hit with his fifth loss of the season. Jackson lasted five innings and gave up 4 earned runs to the Red Sox offense. Jackson struggled with his control as he allowed three walks and threw a wild pitch. The Tampa bullpen allowed one run over the final three innings.
The Rays got their lone run on an Eric Hinske RBI single in the fourth inning. Evan Longoria scored on the play. Longoria, Iwamura, and Hinske had two hits a piece to lead the Rays offense. Hinkse and Longoria each doubled.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday as the Rays try to avoid being swept. James Shields will start on the hill for the Rays. Game time is 7:05pm.
